Katzenstein has worked on numerous projects with Wycliffe Gordon since his 1996 CD Bone Structure was released on Atlantic Records in 1996. He photographed Wycliffe and the orchestra in rehearsal as they prepared to perform live to the screening of Oscar Micheaux’s 1920 silent film With Our Gates.

Wycliffe’s long awaited soundtrack Within These Gates of Mine to the silent film “Within Our Gates” by African-American filmmaker Oscar Micheaux, is set to be released on Friday April 1, at the Savannah Music Festival.  Wycliffe’s 77 minute score was written to accompany the film in 2011.  It was premiered with a live jazz orchestra at Columbia University in 2011 and again at Symphony Space in 2013.  This recording is from the live performance/screening of “Within Our Gates” in 2013.  The Soundtrack features all original compositions by Wycliffe Gordon performed by a 20-piece jazz orchestra including vocalists.  The soundtrack takes you on a musical journey set in the year 1920 and echoes sentiments prevalent throughout the film.
