One November Sunday morning during an early stroll through London’s Hyde Park I came across the famous annual Veteran Car Run – billed as “the world’s longest running and greatest motoring celebration”. Vintage cars (all must be pre-1905) cue up in Hyde Park and then make the 60-mile run to the seafront resort of Brighton. It felt like I had just stumbled into a time warp, and documenting the scene in black and white would add to the timeless quality of the moment. The air was damp and cool and the sounds of the many vehicles revving their ancient engines brought up images in my mind of the time when horses were replaced by these new-found machines.
