New Orleans / Sao Paulo / Santiago de Cuba

In celebration of Mardi Gras 2014 Katzenstein has put together a group of photographs that exemplify the traditions of the festival. We begin with a photo shoot in New Orleans of the Dirty Dozen Brass Band, who were performing at the Glass House. Then move on to Sao Paulo, Brazil to rehearsals of one of the major Samba groups as they prepare for the annual Carnival events. The third photograph is from a project in Cuba for Rolling Stone Magazine tracing the roots of African music in the country. The annual Summer Carnival in the southern city of Santiago de Cuba is quite special.
